After being born with a huge hole in his heart and having open heart surgery as a four-year-old, Mr Scott, 40, is giving back by pushing himself beyond what he ever thought he would be physically capable of.
He has decided to travel home, from London to Auckland, riding solo on his bicycle in a 50,000km journey that will take him close to two-and-a-half years to complete finishing at the hospital where he underwent his operation.
With only 10, 000km of his journey to go, he has cycled in 20 degrees below freezing, through sandstorms and typhoons.
Throughout his travels he has had some unpleasant encounters with Iranian Mafia, Iranian Military, Uzbek thieves, and Filipino Mafia yet he still considers this adventure the most incredible challenge he has ever attempted. One which was made possible by the life saving surgery he received as a child.
Mr Scott’s entire journey is self-funded and unassisted by a support crew, with all funds raised along the way going to charity.
While in Australia, he’s hoping to achieve at least $50,000 for the Australian Heart Foundation to “give back” and help save Aussie kids with heart defects.
Mr Scott is due to arrive in Mount Isa via Tennant Creek on Friday.
