5.30pm: This concludes our rolling coverage of the 2013 Bathurst 1000. We will have more photos from the event, including the finish on our website shortly.
Thanks for reading and for being apart of the Bathurst 1000!
4.55pm: Ford fans are cheering here at Mount Panorama this evening, with hundreds flooding pit lane in front of the podium to cheer for their heroes and chants of 'Frosty' ringing out.
It has been a long drought for the fans with Ford last taking the top spot in 2008 when Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes won in the Team Vodafone car.
4.46pm: We have a new champion on Mount Panorama. Mark Winterbottom has won the 2013 Bathurst 1000!
Jamie Whincup second, Craig Lowndes third.
4.44pm: Final lap!
4.40pm: Can Mark Winterbottom hang on for the last two laps and beat Jamie Whincup to the finish line?
The two have just .38 seconds between them as they head up the mountain for their second last lap.
Craig Lowndes is managing to hold his current third position, with Garth Tander behind him.
4.30pm: The drivers are now into the home stretch with only five laps to go.
One of the best battles of the race has been a three way fight for third place, and the last podium spot, between Jason Bright, Garth Tander and Craig Lowndes.
Mark Winterbottom currently leads the pack but Jamie Whincup is hungry for first with only .4917 between them.
A win today would see Winterbottom grab his first Bathurst 1000 win, but with grey clouds looming over the final sprint for the line, anything could happen in the last minutes of the race.
With five laps to go the postitions are Mark Winterbottom, Jamie Whincup, Jason Bright, Garth Tander and Craig Lowndes.
4pm: It is getting darker over the mountain as Mark Winterbottom steals take the lead from Craig Lowndes on lap 138 of the Bathurst 1000.
Both cars pitted on Lap 139 with Winterbottom getting out of the pits just before Lowndes.
The temperature in Bathurst sits at 26.8 degrees still with a 90 per cent chance of rain this afternoon.
Will we get rain on the mountain during the last laps of the race? (Scroll down the page to see our live weather map as the rain comes across the central west).
Current positions on lap 141 are Garth Tander, Mark Winterbottom, Jamie Whincup, Jason Bright and Craig Lowndes.
3.30pm: Power steering failure up the mountain has been a disappointment for #300 Michael Caruso, who made his way straight into the garage after smoke started pouring from his car across the top on lap 119.
Caruso is out of the race for a podium finish after the incident and remains in the garage.
Fighting for the lead are Mark Winterbottom and Jamie Whincup. While there are still several drivers in contention for a podium finish, these two seem to be the ones to beat to the chequered flag at the moment.
On lap 129 the leaders are #10 Mattias Ekstrom, #5 Mark Winterbottom, #1 Jamie Whincup, #80 Scott Pye and #8 Jason Bright.
3pm: Ford's Mark Winterbottom leads the Bathurst 1000 on lap 114 around Mount Panorama.
The Winterbottom, Steven Richards team have pitted five times, compared to second place holders Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell who have pitted six times.
This year there is a mandatory seven pit stops for all teams throughout the 161 laps.
Rounding out the top five on lap 114 are Jason Bright, Scott McLaughlin and Craig Lowndes.
2.30pm: One hundred laps have passed with 21 cars are on the lead lap for the 2013 Bathurst 1000.
The first 100 laps of the race have been relatively drama free aside from the Jack Daniel #7 taking front guard damage early in the race from a kangaroo and Greg Murphy taking a hit to the wall at Reid Park.
Both incidents put them out of the running.
Red Bull have had a perfect race thus far aside from Warren Luff entering the sand trap at the chase, however he still managed to hold third place.
The current top five are Andrew Jones, Jack Perkins, David Reynolds, Alex Davison, and Greg Ritter.
With only 61 laps to go who are you backing to take out the Peter Brock Trophy this year?
2pm: The safety car was deployed for the second time today after Greg Murphy smashed car #22 into the wall near Reid Park.
Greg Murphy is out of the car and okay but there is significant damage to the front left wheel of the HRT car.
Driver James Courtney said crashing was all part of the Bathurst 1000.
"I'd rather have it at the start of the race so you can pick up from it, but hopefully we can pick back up," he said.
As of lap 89 Steve Richards was winning the Bathurst 1000, Warren Luff was in second place, Will Davison in third, Paul Dumbrell in fourth and Fabian Coulthard in fifth.
1.30pm: The cars are round the track for the 77th time with the pairing of Whincup and Dumbrell still leading the pack.
A fierce battle broke out earlier between Greg Murphy and Craig Lowndes. The former teammates were fighting for third place before the triple eight car headed to the pits. Lowndes exited the car, allowing Warren Luff to begin his second stint in the Red Bull car.
After stalling his car during a routine pit stop on lap 68, youngster Chaz Mostert spent minutes rather than seconds out of the action, undoing all his hard work getting his team up the field. He eventually re-joined the track, three laps off the pace.
In the lead is Mark Winterbottom, followed by David Reynolds, Alex Premat, Garth Tander and Paul Dumbrell.
1pm: Sixty-four laps in and the top 10 cars continue to shuffle positions at the front of the pack.
Red Bull racing headed to the pits for either tyres and fuel in the last 10 laps, but despite the stoppages both Red Bull cars sit in the top 10.
Craig Lowndes is still behind the wheel but Whincup has handed control over to co-driver Paul Dumbrell.
Steve Richards is currently leading the Bathurst 1000, followed by Dean Canto in second place, Paul Dumbrell in third, Andrew Jones in fourth and Jack Perkins in fifth.
12.30pm: Fifty laps in and Whincup is proving to be the fastest on track after beginning his first stint on lap 22.
All but one car is on the lead lap with #7 Jack Daniels racing conceding defeat after taking extensive damage to the right front guard after hitting a kangaroo.
In the wining position for the Bathurst 1000 currently is Jamie Whincup, in second place is Steve Richards, in third place is James Courtney, in fourth is Dean Canto and in fifth Steve Owen.
12pm: Red Bull's Jamie Whincup has recorded the fastest lap of the morning with a 2.11.6154 on lap 26 of 161 today.
Whincup is also leading the field 33 laps into the race, followed by #5 Steven Richards, #55 Dean Canto, #888 Warren Luff and #6 Steve Owen.
11.30am: A safety car has been deployed 22 laps into the race after the Nissan #7 driver David Russell hit a kangaroo while heading up the mountain.
Russell was travelling over 180km/hr when the kangaroo jumped onto the track. He swerved but collided with the kangaroo sustaining damage to the right hand side of the car.
The Nissan limped back into the garage with pit crews working hard to get it back on the track for the rest of the race.
11am: Nissan’s Director for Global Motorsport Darren Cox has made his first trip to the Bathurst 1000.
Mr Cox said that having watched bits of the Bathurst 1000 on English television as a child, it was brilliant to finally come to the great race.
“To come here yesterday and go up the mountain and see for myself all the great stories that I’ve heard over the years of what happens up the top of the mountain and to see it for real yesterday was brilliant,” he said. “On a global basis we can use this (the Bathurst 1000) more and more as a platform for us to get across our innovation,” he said.
“The boys are doing a great job in terms of being in their first year, with new cars,” he said.
Mr Cox said that he hoped that Nissan and the arrival of Volvo would help other manufacturers look at it.
“Wouldn’t it be great if we got five or six manufacturers basically, It’d be great,” he said.
10.30am: And they are off and racing!
10am: Just half an hour before the V8s take to the track for 161 laps around Mount Panorama.
The excitement is building here at the track, with the arrival of the Peter Brock Trophy, Fly-overs and a parade lap. Flick through the photos above to see the parade lap and the arrival of the trophy.
9.30am: There are a few clouds out and about with a 90 per cent chance of rain today.
Keep up-to-date with the weather around Bathurst here.
9am: Craig Baird has won the third and final race for the porsche Carrera Cup at Bathurst on Sunday, taking a further step towards the championship.
Baird took out the race ahead of Warren Luff in second and Steven Richards in third.
The fastest lap of the race was set by Michael Patrizi with a 2.10.8211.
8.30am: Kim Jane fended off a late challenge from Dave Seiders to take out race three of the V8 Utes series at Mount Panorama on Sunday.
Jane started from pole and led from start to finish, but Seiders made a late challenge and got alongside Jane on Conrod Straight before yeilding.
Just two tenths of a second separated the two with Ryan Hansford getting third.
Steven White had been sitting in second before a mistake on the second last lap saw him go off.
He was one of seven who failed to finish in a high attrition race.
Most of the damage was done on the opening corner of the first lap with four cars retiring after coming together. A safety car was required while the incident was cleaned up and resulted in the race being shortened by a lap.
It was the final race for Tony Longhurst after the two-time Bathurst 1000 winner announced his retirement.
8am: The V8s have completed their warm up session this morning, with the V8 Utes about to take to the track for their last race of the weekend. They will be followed at 8.35am by the Carrera Cup.
7.30am: Good Morning race fans and welcome to the 2013 Bathurst 1000.
The Red Bull team of Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell will start the race in pole position after Whincup recorded the fastest time during the top 10 shootout on Saturday afternoon.
They will be joined on the front of the grid by The Pepsi Max team of Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards and followed by Jason Bright and Andrew Jones and Shane van Gisbergen and Jeroen Bleekmolen.
For those heading to the track today, don't forget the hat, sunscreen and an umbrella. It is unsure what the weather will bring over the 1000 kilometres, with a top predicted temperature of 27 degrees and a 90 per cent of 1 - 5 millimeters of rain.
