Saturday's Burketown Bloc Party has been planned as a celebration of the completion of the sealing of the Wills Developmental Road from Gregory to Burketown and the reopening of the Burketown Pub.
Burketown Shire Mayor Ernie Camp said it was an exciting time for the shire.
``It is an auspicious occasion as we are celebrating two milestones in the community: the completion of sealing of the Wills Development Road and the reopening of the local watering hole and meeting place, following a destructive fire 18 months ago,'' he said.
Celebrations begin in Gregory at the Gregory Downs Hotel with a lunch at midday before the event's convoy of vehicles then drive along fully sealed roads all the way to the Doomadgee turn-off for the Burke Shire Council's celebration for the upgrade of the Wills Developmental Road.
The Bloc Party then starts at 3pm in Burketown with the arrival of the convoy before live entertainment.
The Bloc Party will feature live music, activities for children, workshops, a photo exhibition, street food, interactive story walls, The Burketown Gift, market stalls, DJ, car convoy and more.
An athletic tradition, The Burketown Gift, a famous foot race that starts on Truganini Road near the hospital and finishes at the Burketown Pub, will also be run and won.
Photographer Madison Marshall will exhibit her photos and the Burke Shire Council will feature photos and images of Burketown and the Morning Glory Cloud.
There will be music instrument-making workshops, face painting, chalk art on the street, interactive story walls celebrating the stories of our past with a focus on presealed roads, the Burketown Pub and other tales of Moungibi-Burketown.
