Fire crews were called to the scene in Shackleton Street shortly after 1pm.
Police detained two males, aged 15 and 16, who were assisting police with their inquiries.
Mount Isa Police Sergeant Trevor Mills said investigations into the incident were continuing.
Up to 16 firefighters responded to the incident, which was in an area that was hard to access.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Acting Area Commander Anthony Brewin said crews were unable to access the area where the fire was burning due to the uncertainty of the structural integrity of the building.
``When the crews arrived they accessed the area, however due to the structural integrity of the place being compromised they couldn't get all the way to where the fire was burning,'' Mr Brewin said.
``We then contacted the mines who put us on to a rock mechanic who assisted our crews in assessing the structure to make sure it didn't collapse on them.''
Mr Brewin said the fire, which was about 40 metres from the nearest access point, was contained shortly after 10pm on Saturday.
The fire service also responded to two other incidents during the day.
Crews attended a small vegetation fire in Urquhart Street shortly after noon, which was quickly contained ?comin a short period of time? and a structure fire contained to a room in Miles Street.
Mount Isa station officer Ian Loudon said the structure fire was the result of an accident and staff had ?comgreatly? assisted the fire service by implementing correct procedures following the incident.
