This is the message Leichhardt Bowls Club president Graham Vonhoff hopes will draw more community groups and sporting clubs together at his facility this year.
Nestled between the abandoned RSL building and Carbonate Street off the Barkly Highway, the 59-year-old club has stood the test of time, but only just.
Mr Vonhoff said the Bowls Club spent more than $100,000 upgrading the kitchens, barbecue area, installing air-conditioning and remodelling the bars and function rooms to create a space the community could embrace.
``Of all of the sporting clubs in town, none of them really have a home base,'' he said.
``There's only the Irish Club and the Buffs.''
Mr Vonhoff said, like all other sporting groups, the committee struggled to get people engaged and had its fair share of ups and downs over the years.
It was the club's decision to sell the bowling green behind the club that injected much-needed cash back into the facility - funds Mr Vonhoff said he'd like to share to keep sports strong in Mount Isa.
``If we can help all the little battlers in the clubs, and help the good players go away, you know, we might even be able to run sponsorship for people to get picked in state sides, you never know,'' he said.
The club offers free coaching for people of all ages who want to start perfecting their technique or just learn the basics.
``It would be good to get another 10 to 15 new bowlers, even if they're kids,'' he said.
``Once you get it in your blood it sort of takes over a bit.''
The Leichhardt Bowls Club is open to the public from 2.30pm on weekdays and 10am on weekends.
