“Unfortunately the chances of him being alive are unlikely,” Mount Isa police Inspector Trevor Kidd said.
He confirmed police were scaling back their searches, but investigations would continue and any new piece of information would be followed up.
Inspector Kidd said police were finding it challenging to verify Kyle’s last movements.
He said they had been unable to confirm that the 17-year-old attended a number of parties in the early hours of Saturday, February 22.
“It would seem less likely that he was at parties but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t in Mount Isa,” Inspector Kidd said.
He said some of the information was “second or third hand”, which made it difficult to verify.
Inspector Kidd said police had not ruled out the possibility Kyle did not return from a camping trip to Undilla Station.
But he said police had no information that led them to believe Kyle had left Mount Isa for another destination.
“There’s nothing to suggest that, it’s still completely out of character,” Inspector Kidd said.
Inspector Kidd said there was no information to suggest a murder-suicide following the death of a 21-year-old male who was the last person to see Kyle.
