Three detectives travelled to the town last month to follow up on fresh leads about the 20-year-old's movements 30 years ago.
Police said they were assisted by three witnesses who said they spoke to Mr Jones in the town's Grand Hotel in November 1982.
Police said the new information would help police piece together the last movements of Mr Jones, who was en route to meet his brother in Mount Isa when he disappeared.
Hughenden's slaughter yard was also an area of interest to detectives yesterday.
Townsville police initially focused their investigations for the missing man in Townsville and at a campsite on the Cloncurry River.
Senior Sergeant John Mahoney, who was on the case in 2001, told The North West Star in February that new information from anonymous and known informants had, for the first time in years, provided investigators with a new direction.
``Tony never made it to Mount Isa,'' he said.
``He never met up with his brother and his family have been waiting a lifetime to get answers.''
Flinders Shire Mayor Gregory Jones said he didn't know how police would be able to piece anything together after more than 30 years of searching.
