GALLERY: Mega Playgroup

March 25 2014 - 10:21pm

NUMEROUS children up to five years were dressed as superheroes, fairy princesses, ladybugs, and all other sorts of cute critters while enjoying the Mega Playgroup in Mount Isa on Tuesday.  Adults even dressed for the occasion; with some painted green to look like popular characters from the Shrek movie series. Melody Moreno said her family dressed as Shrek characters because her four-year-old son, Alvaro, was a fan of the movies. Alvaro was dressed as Puss-in-Boots. “We’re always the same thing at every playgroup and party,” Mrs Moreno said. “It’s fun for the children and it’s a break in the routine.” Mrs Moreno said the family moved from Madrid, Spain, two years ago. Centacare Communities for Children program manager Elizabeth Gallard said about 15 organisations supported the Mega Playgroup this year.  The event supported children aged up to five years, and was “bigger and better” this year with a new costume parade and baby stalls.  Ms Gallard said she spoke to attendees who recently moved to Mount Isa and were delighted with the event.  “Their communities don’t have something like this,” Ms Gallard said.  There was also a jumping castle, face painting, crafts, market and information stalls at the event. The Outback Parenting Confence will be held this morning at the Civic Centre from 9am to 2.30pm.
