The Mount Isa soccer fields gates were opened for the first time this season on Friday night, with the women's league starting proceedings with some tense matches.
In the Parkside versus Rippers clash, the former edged ahead thanks to a second-half winner. Parkside opened the scoring in the first half before Rippers struck back to equalise through Nikkita Rae.
Rippers coach Ross Smale took the ``glass half-full approach'' after Friday's match.
``I was pleased with the whole team's effort,'' he said.
``Including all of our new ladies, especially those who haven't played before or in a number of years.''
``Bessie Pili and Zea Christopherson were great in the backline.''
The second match of the night saw Tigers 2-1 winners over the reigning premier in Isaroos.
Atlas also opened their account with a 3-1 victory over International.
