In answer to a question from Queensland Palmer United Party leader Alex Douglas about doctor training, Mr Newman said he believed it was prudent to discuss what he saw happening within Mr Palmer's party.

Echoing comments from Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Wednesday morning, Mr Newman said West Australians needed to "look to Mr Palmer and his track record, the things he does ...versus what actually happens".

"I actually agree with our Prime Minister who has actually remarked and observed that the Palmer party are trying to buy election positions in the state of WA and the Senate campaign," Mr Newman said.

Mr Newman said his government had spent "the best part of two years" battling with Mr Palmer over his Townsville nickel refinery, "trying to make him observe his environmental obligations" and make a commitment on "the jobs of hard working men and women at that refinery".

"He refused," Mr Newman said.

"He has, as has clearly been demonstrated, completely trashed a once five star resort on the Sunshine Coast. He has sacked many people, he has completely tried to do over the small investors, the mum and dad investors, he lost a major tournament there."

Mr Newman accused Mr Palmer of lying to "Queenslanders, to Australians" when he declared would not be involved in business once he became a member of Parliament but "clearly he is still involved in business".

"So I say to the people of WA, watch very very clearly, don't be fooled by someone who has shown that he wants to buy governments," Mr Newman said.

"And that is why there was a fight with this team. We weren't going to be bought."

Mr Palmer said any attack from Mr Newman came from "a place of fear" about what impact his political party would have on the LNP vote at the next Queensland election.

Mr Palmer said his party's influence had already created change at a federal level, prompting Mr Abbott to bar lobbyists from holding executive roles within the party and was the influence behind federal funding for the Bruce Highway.

"In eight months as a political party, we hold the balance of power in the Australian Senate, I was elected to Fairfax with 50.3 per cent of the vote and Mr Newman is worried he might lose the premiership," he said.

"...The real issue is [Mr] Newman is worried that we will beat him in the upcoming election. And he knows that most of his backbench and his ministers at the moment are not happy with him as premier.

"So he is trying to divert attention."
