Students from Brisbane’s three major universities will hold a candlelight vigil for murdered French student Sophie Collombet in the South Brisbane park where she was killed.

The event will take place next Thursday, with attendees meeting at King George Square at 6.30pm before walking to Kurilpa Park.
Friends of Ms Collombet are expected to speak at the event.
The vigil has been organised jointly by students from Griffith University, University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology.
UQ Union president Josh Millroy said Ms Collombet’s death had touched the hearts of many people in Brisbane’s student community.
“The idea of the event is to raise awareness about violence against women and to commemorate the life of Sophie who tragically lost her life,” he said.
“I think everyone’s a little taken aback and upset. They’re shocked and they don’t want to feel unsafe walking home.”
Mr Millroy said he hoped Ms Collombet’s death - the fourth international student killing in as many months - didn’t tarnish Brisbane’s reputation as a safe place.
“Brisbane is a very safe city and much safer than and other international cities like London, New York and Paris,” he said.
Griffith University is also organising a memorial service for Ms Collombet, expected to be held next week.
Police believe Ms Collombet was murdered at Kurilpa Park near the William Jolly Bridge while walking home, after attending a night class at Griffith University’s Nathan Campus on March 27.
The 21-year-old caught a bus to Cultural Centre bus station and was heading to her Quay Street apartment, via the Go Between Bridge.
On Thursday, detectives said they did not have a suspect and were continuing to investigate the case.
About 1000 people turned out for a public memorial for slain Korean student Eunji Ban in Wickham Park, following her death last November.
