The highly anticipated Mid-West Rugby League clash at Alec Inch Oval on Saturday was called off 25 minutes early due to repeated indiscretions.
Spats continually marred the game, sparking reminders of last year's fiery grand final when referee Ashley Gallagher was struck by a player.
Reagan Thatcher, Timmy Daniel, Dale Wilson and Matthew Sullivan were all sent off before referee Jarred Horne said enough was enough and pulled the pin.
A decision on the official outcome is still being determined - Wanderers were leading 32-6 at the conclusion.
The league is seeking advice from Queensland Rugby League.
Because the match was called off, it is believed rules specify that no team will gain competition points - regardless of the fact the Devils were leading comfortably.
Mid-West Rugby League president Les Carter was disappointed the issue had reared its head yet again.
``We don't want to see it happen again,'' he said.
``We're going to discuss and decide what we're going to put in place if this occurs, because if it does, we're going to come down hard.
``It doesn't look good for league across the board or the Mid-West competition itself.''
In other matches at the weekend, Cloncurry started its season in positive fashion with a narrow 22-18 victory over Town (1-2) and Normanton downed the Bulls 32-6 in Hughenden on Saturday night.
