Police said a shipment of 42 stun guns from Thailand was intercepted by Customs officials in Sydney.

The weapons had been hidden inside the heads of medium-sized torches, they said.

The seizure lead investigators to a mining company in Roma, which was the intended address of the shipment.

Police said eight stun guns were found in a man's room at the mining site on Bend Road.

A 41-year-old Gold Coast man was charged with weapons offences and bailed to appear before the Roma Magistrates Court early next month.
