A Newspoll published in The Australian has found the two year old Newman government is in danger of losing the next election, with support on a two-party preferred basis dropping another three points since December.

On a two-party preferred basis, the LNP leads Labor 52 per cent to 48 per cent, with primary support for the government reduced to 40 per cent from the 49.7 per cent it held during the election.

If the swing was uniform across the state, the government would lose up to 30 MPs and possibly the next election.

But political watchers, such as Paul Williams, believe the swing is unlikely to be uniform, instead predicting the government is more likely to lose 20 to 25 seats come March 2015.

Wednesday's Newspoll results follow Friday's ReachTEL poll which came to a similar conclusion.

That poll, commissioned by Working for Queenslanders, an organisation set up by the Together Union, found that based on the preference flow from the last election, the LNP would lose 35 seats, reducing their numbers to 39.

But Mr Newman is still the state's preferred premier, leading Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk 41 per cent to 35 per cent.

Almost one in four of the poll's 1136 participants are uncommitted.

Acting Premier Jeff Seeney said the government had been elected “to make changes” but conceded those changes “caused discomfort for people”.

Since its election, the government has pushed forward with an agenda which included the sacking of more than 14,000 public servants and massive changes to law and order, most controversially its anti-association laws based on the United States' Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

Mr Seeney said the government would continue to do what it believed was right.

“I think the changes we have made over the first two years will demonstrate their benefits over the next 12 months,” he said.

“It has been a period of intense change over the past two years and I understand that that change has made a lot of people uncomfortable. But they were changes that needed to be made for Queensland's future.

“I think a period of intense change is always uncomfortable for everybody, but these are changes that had to be made for Queensland's future and these are changes that will produce benefits for Queensland for generations to come.

“It is very easy for any government to sit still and do nothing. That is not why Campbell Newman and I were elected. We were elected to make the changes in Queensland that needed to be made.”

Police Minister Jack Dempsey said he “did not comment on polls” but said “Campbell Newman is the greatest Premier Queensland has”.

“And I hope he is in that position for many generations to come,” he said.

“I think actions speak louder than words and when you see what has already happened and what will continue to happen to make Queensland the greatest state in Australia, the people of Queensland certainly know this is a mature government that is getting on with action and not political spin.

“We don't comment on polls and I don't live in a world of hindsight. It is about doing actions, working hard for the people of Queensland.”

Independent MP Peter Wellington predicted the LNP would ‘‘barnstorm the state promising everything and anything in a bid to win votes’’.

“What this government forgot on the way to sacking, jailing and bullying thousands of Queenslanders is that ... Queenslanders won't forget the way they were treated,’’ he said.

“Their trust in this arrogant government is gone and it will take a lot more than bankrolling projects to regain it.’’
