Branch vice-president Ron McCullough said there was no place within the Australian Labor Party or the union movement for people motivated by greed or self-interest.
``It is appalling that people elected to positions of leadership are exploiting the trust of everyday members to amass huge financial gains,'' he said.
``Urgent changes are needed to the system of government when we read of the exploits of ?vp+1these elected officials.''
Mr McCullough said ?vp+1to add to the disrepute ?vp+1was the fact that no one ?vp+2in government appeared ?vp+1surprised or alarmed at ?vp+1the revelations.
``All this is taking place while MPs' wages and perks are increasing, while at the same time Australian workers are struggling to meet growing energy, medical and other costs on a minimum wage,'' he said.
