``As a result of the election, there is a better likelihood of the repeal of the mining tax,'' Mr Macdonald said.
Although the sixth seat has not yet been decided, Mr Macdonald believed it would be won by the Liberals, giving them three WA seats in total.
The other seats were won by the Greens, Labor, and the Palmer United Party.
Mr Macdonald said the Greens would be against the repeal, but believed the PUP senator would likely vote for it.
``I expect the party will support the repeal of the mining tax in the Senate,'' Mr Macdonald said.
Mr Palmer's knowledge of the mining industry meant he would be aware of the negative effect the tax was having on future investment in the Australian resource sector, Mr Macdonald said.
The previous repeal was declined 35 -32 when brought to the Senate on March 25.
