The Bayside Bulletin's Brian Hurst has been up early, staking a claim for his spot at South Bank since 5.30am for the best vantage point of the royal couple:
As the sun rose over Southbank, around 30 people had taken up positions along the barricades in Russell Street for the long wait until the royal couple, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stroll past this afternoon.
A half dozen people had slept overnight, but after dawn a steady flow of people arrived to find a spot along the 100 metre stretch of road between the Brisbane Convention Centre and the big wheel at Southbank.
Young people, particularly young women in their teens and twenties were prominent in the crowd waiting for the 2.50pm appearance of William and Kate.
Earlier in the morning, Tim Dormer, 2013 winner of Big Brother mingled with the crowd after a live cross to Channel Nine's Today Show.
Police asked people at the front of the barricades to keep an eye on their bags and report any bags they didn't recognise as theirs.
Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's visit to Brisbane today.
The couple have been a huge hit down south and across the pond on this tour but the pair only have a day to take in what Queensland has to offer.
With reporters stationed at South Bank, Amberley and the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, stay tuned as we take you through the day with live updates of Kate, William and George's Queensland experience.
