Premier Campbell Newman will present the Tambo Teddy to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Saturday, on behalf the people of Queensland.

Tambo Teddies became famous for saving the central western town during the early 1990s wool price crash by creating a new industry. Each teddy is made from Australian wool and hand-sewn by women in Tambo.

Prince George's new companion carries a swag, leather stock, whip, leather hat, a 'Bear-as-a-Bone' coat, checked shirt, moleskin pants and a plaited leather belt.

One of the owners of the iconic business, Alison Shaw said she was delighted when the Premier’s department rang the store asking after a teddy.

“They just rang up and bought it, it was so exciting,” she said.

“...we were just like ‘wow, this is fantastic’.  Because we had actually been talking about it on the weekend, asking ‘how do we get a bear to baby George?’ and it happened on the Monday.”

Basil was made by one of the group’s main sewers, Verna, and a variety of women made the outfits.

“He’s a beautiful honey-coloured large and he is fully kitted out in the outback stockman outfit,” Ms Shaw said.

Those wanting a Stockman Basil of their own can purchase him for $290 at the Tambo Teddies website.

Mr Newman will also present Sunshine Coast photographer Ben Messina's 'River City Brisbane' photograph to the royal couple.

Mr Messina said he was contacted by the Premier’s department and asked to provide a range of image samples, but wasn’t told why.

“A couple of weeks ago I got the news that one of mine had been accepted.  It was a very nice surprise,” he said.

“They were looking for something that showed Brisbane in all of its beauty. I presented them a couple of different options and that is the one Premier Newman chose.

“I have a few pieces that I made at the same time as the one I did for, so that will be on display in my gallery tomorrow.”

The 200 guests at the reception, who were chosen for their “inspiring” work in a range of sectors spanning the arts, welfare, youth development, education, disability, defence and business sectors, will dine on local produce, while listening to the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra.

About half a dozen people slept overnight at Southbank to ensure they snagged the best spot to catch the royal wave as the couple complete their short walk.

Their Royal Highnesses will then be shuffled back into their vehicle to return to Sydney.
