Breeds from across the world - including an Italian greyhound, Japanese hairless chin, French bulldog and a Scottish deerhound - now face days of primping and preening before the competition.
Club secretary Belinda Boyle said that after the popularity of last year's showing at the Mount Isa Show, more was done to make the competitions appeal to spectators.
``We love it when people come down to watch, but we weren't expecting so many,'' she said.
``A lot of people sat there for over an hour to watch at the agricultural show.
``This year we will have a microphone so people know which breed is in the ring.
``The canteen will be open to supply food, and there will be plenty of shade - just bring your own chairs or a picnic rug to sit on.''
Mrs Boyle said 50 dogs were registered for this weekend's show, with dog owners travelling from as far away as Brisbane to compete.
She said the panel of Brisbane-based judges also found the trip to Cloncurry more attractive now that direct flights to the rural town were available.
Gates are open at the Cloncurry Racecourse from 9am until 3pm on Saturday and from 8.30am on Sunday.
