Police allege the driver sped towards police after failing to stop at a random breath test point during routine police patrols at the 36th world barramundi fishing championships.
He was arrested at Burketown and charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by alcohol.
Burketown officer in charge Sergeant Oliver Lawrence said 65 random breath tests were issued across the three-day weekend, with 15 infringement notices handed out for various traffic offences.
He said another eight infringement notices were issued by the Queensland Fisheries on the water for registration and boat-safety-related offences.
``Police worked closely with Queensland Fisheries and the event's organisers to ensure the event was smoothly run and family oriented,'' he said.
Despite a few bad eggs emerging from the bunch, Sergeant Lawrence said the weekend was well run and police activities were well received.
``It was a positive outcome for police and the community was very supportive of our presence,'' he said.
``We had no issues with any public order with anyone in attendance.
``The crowd had a good weekend and I believe there were some great prizes handed out by organisers who ran a very professional event.''
This year was one of Burketown Barramundi Fishing Organisation's largest events, with 380 fishermen registered on the day.
