The former Alice Springs hoop is set to call Brisbane home with trainer Les Ross after thriving in a three-month trial period.
But it's his knowledge of the sand track at Alice Springs he thinks will give him an advantage when he makes a hit-and-run mission to Mount Isa today for three rides.
``Hopefully I make a good impression and you can see a bit more of me out here,'' Vigar said.
Vigar will partner Fate For Sure for leading trainer Patrick Inwood in the class 2 handicap (1000 metres).
``I get on a last-start winner [Fate For Sure] so I'm pretty happy with that,'' he said.
He will also team up with Julia Creek trainer Grant Wiles to pilot Left Behind and Conto.
The Buchanan Park surface is similar to that of Alice Springs, where Vigar honed his riding skills, and he hopes that will hold him in good stead for his North West debut.
``I'm looking forward to getting out there and riding my hardest,'' he said.
``I'll get out and check the track but I'll have an advantage as I've ridden on similar surfaces.''
The 19-year-old conducts himself like a man on a mission, outlined by his move from Alice Springs to Brisbane to explore more opportunities.
And with his commitment to fine-tuning his riding style by travelling to Mount Isa, it's no surprise many in the industry have already signalled that he has a bright future in the game.
His master Ross believes he has what it takes, but is also instilling discipline into the talented youngster.
``The boss [Ross] has already said, don't miss the plane or you won't be riding on Saturday [at the Sunshine Coast],'' he said.
Vigar was lured to Mount Isa to ride at the meeting after he rode a horse owned by race club president Peter Inwood down south.
Vigar will be one of three apprentices among 13 jockeys, and Inwood said it was a coup for racing participants to have the lesser experienced riders at the track.
Gates open at 11am with the first race at 2.10pm.
