On Wednesday the minister slipped into Karumba in the midst of the federal budget madness to announce a $1 million contribution to the Gulf town's plans to build a 25-metre swimming pool, children's wading pool, mini water park and amenities.
A quick visit to Cloncurry yesterday was also used to commit another $800,000 to help upgrade Cloncurry Airport's apron and taxiway.
The latest funding announcement is a coup for Cloncurry Shire Council, which scored $5 million in Royalties for the Regions funding for its heavy vehicle bypass and airport upgrade last year.
The federal government also pledged money to the heavy vehicle bypass in yesterday's budget announcements.
Cloncurry Mayor Andrew Daniels said his shire was a valuable contributor to the Queensland economy and was pleased to see it acknowledged through the Royalties for the Regions program.
``The $800,000 for the Cloncurry Airport upgrade recognises the $119 million of royalties generated as a result of resource activity in the shire,'' he said.
``I believe this figure will rise as Cloncurry continues to experience sustained growth.'' Hughenden is also set to pick up $300,000 to help build a pedestrian bridge crossing at Swanson Creek and a cycling and walking path.
