Jeans for Jacko is the first major fund-raising campaign the family has held since their 17-year-old son didn't return home from a camping trip with his close friend in February.
When extensive police searches of land between Mount Isa and Camooweal were called off, the family forged on.
Coleman family spokesperson Linda Dahler said people who came to the Jeans for Jacko night on Saturday were encouraged to wear jeans and the colour yellow.
``We picked jeans because Kyle always wore jeans and a T-shirt, and picked the colour yellow because when Denise Morcombe visited she encouraged us to pick a colour for the campaign people would recognise,'' Ms Dahler said.
The $20 entry fee and proceeds from auctions and raffles will help fund the family's search efforts.
Mrs Dahler said the family tried to source all of the prizes from local businesses to repay the support they offered the family since Kyle's disappearance.
A $1000 travel voucher, the lucky door prize, is up for grabs and attendees are encouraged to leave their business cards in a bowl at the function for the family to keep.
Jeans for Jacko starts Saturday at 7.30pm at the Carpentaria Buffalo Club and includes live entertainment and nibbles.
