Mckinlay Shire community services team leader Jade Lyons said tourists staying at the campsite could volunteer to become camp hosts.
Camp hosts were responsible for minding the campsite, Ms Lyons said.
The volunteers were required to stay at the site a minimum of two weeks but were allowed to stay for free.
``Our strategy is to keep visitors in town for an extra length of time,'' Ms Lyons said.
This position has existed since the Dirt 'n' Dust Festival in April.
Ms Lyons said there had been a great response to the volunteer role.
``People have booked until next year,'' she said. ``We thought we would struggle [to fill places].''
The council has also placed bikes at the site for visitors to use for free.
Grey nomads Beth and Ray Covill visited the Mckinlay Shire office to compliment staff on the new campsite initiatives.
``We believe there should be more of this, to encourage more people to stay in town,'' Mrs Covill said.
