A 10-ALL thriller between Rebels White and Wanderers Gold was the pick of the action at the Mount Isa softball diamonds at the weekend.

Six innings couldn’t separate the sides, which both had chances to win the game.
Key to the game was the pitching combination of Linda King and Kartia Bell, who helped the Rebels restrict Wanderers down the stretch.
Cianne Denyer, Linda Thompson and Ash Stanley backed up the pitching efforts with big-hitting heroics for Rebels, to help clinch the draw.
Leanne Rumbalau was again strong with the ball for Wanderers, continually putting it in the strike zone and forcing Rebels players to swing.
Kim Pointer, Marette Schulz and Oli Quirk all fielded well for the Wanderers.
Wanderers White and Pirates put on a scoring exhibition in their women’s Mount Isa Softball Association match.
Pirates held out to win 14-12 thanks to the patient batting of trio Kaye Smith, Taelah Nardoo and Camilla Walden.
The always consistent pitching-catcher combination of Trish Richards and Zoey Rankine proved at times too tough for their Wanderers opposition to contain.
Jennifer Hamlett, Pointer, Zhoe Stephenson and Carolina Yokaichiya kept Wanderers in the match right to the bottom of the sixth.
In an earlier women’s match, Wanderers A got back in the winner’s circle by defeating their Blue clubmates 13-2.
Amanda Bishop starred for Wanderers A keeping Blue’s big hitters quiet and recording runs herself when batting.
Nikki Byrne, Jay Hegarty and Dennielle Byrne chipped in with the bat for Wanderers A.
Judy Lloyd, Cass Dredge and Jo Mackenzie were best on ground for the Blue outfit.
The final women’s match saw Red Devils’s Melissa Horn pitch well in her side’s 8-4 victory against Rebels.
Brenda Henricks and Hazle Martin were both solid in the field for Red Devils, while Jodie Lee King and Nicola Caldwell continued their hot form with the bat.
Rebels had plenty of contributions on the day from Cheryl Gallagher, Hannah Milton, Edith Medwin, Gerry Timonen and Coleen Mohamed, but unfortunately they were all in vain.
In the A Grade mens division, Wanderers’ ‘‘wonder duo’’ of Ryan Smith and Alex Kostowski kept the Pirates’ home plate very quiet.
Superb fielding by Karl Lloyd, Joel Naughton and Chris Dredge secured the 9-1 win for Wanderers.
Jaymon King, Anton Saltmere, Bart Walden and David Hegarty all had strong games for Pirates.
The other A-grade match saw Red Devils get home 10-1 on the back of another star performance by Phil Horne.
Horne’s fast pitches and big hitting was supported by teammates Jayson Morgan, James Larkin and Jarrod Morgan.
Jeff Biffen’s cat-like skills on third saved his Rebels team on numerous occasions, as did solid fielding from Mark Bellamy, Matt Hovi, Bryan Brown and Jesse Parker.
In the A-reserve mens, Wanderers scrapped in with a hard-earned 12-10 win against Pirates in entertaining fashion.
Wanderers started the match on fire with huge hits from Jarrod Nilsson, Dick Kostowski and Miguel Kato.
Mitchell Nilsson kept the pressure on Pirates with accurate pitches.
Tristan Saltmere pitched strong for Pirates as Bart Walden, James Byrne and Kieran Punch fought til the end.
