It’s a songbook the LNP, facing horror opinion polls for both Mr Newman’s performance and the government's own, appears to be playing from.

While Mr Newman said he would not be changing how he tackled his job, on Monday he adopted a policy of only tackling the issue he wanted to talk about.

Which was health.

Not Clive Palmer

“Look I’m here today to talk about how we want to save the eyesight of Queenslanders and I reject of course Mr Palmer’s nonsense,” he said.

Or Tim Carmody’s swearing in as Chief Justice, which will occur on Tuesday, in private, and in chambers, with no media.

“Well, look, I think the A-G dealt with that all last week and that’s up to Mr Carmody.”

And definitely not Mr Palmer.

“I’m here today to talk about the way that I don’t want Queenslanders to lose their eyesight through an inability to get in and get their necessary consultation. I’m not here to talk about Mr Palmer,” he said.

Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney gave a sort of mea culpa last Monday by admitting the government had attempted “too much, too quick” when implementing its change agenda.

But it was an admission not everyone in the government was willing to make.

Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie, previously one of the government’s most outspoken ministers, has been missing more than he has been seen in recent weeks, emerging last week to officially launch the Office of the Public Guardian – but refusing to veer off script.

"The government will always continue to retain the strong plan for a brighter future and we will be talking about that until the cows come home, right to the next election, because it is important to Queenslanders to understand - this government, under the leadership of Campbell Newman has a strong plan for a brighter future, the Labor party under Annastacia Palaszczuk doesn't have any policies doesn't have any plans for the future, they just want to recycle their former politicians and that is not what Queenslanders want,” he said on July 1 in response to the government’s poor polling and whether he played a role in it.

"Queenslanders overwhelmingly rejected that approach from the Labor Party in 2012. They wanted change. And we set about making the change."

Since making his asset sales and privatisation pitch, Treasurer Tim Nicholls, while seen as a strong media performer, has seen no real need to front the cameras, staying quiet while the approval ratings storm rages on.

It is also a lesson Mr Newman’s cabinet members have learnt well – Monday’s Cabinet door stops consisted of the same messages, slightly reworked for that minister’s speaking patterns, but nothing more or less.

It’s a policy that has worked for the federal government – Immigration Minister Scott Morrison uses it to his advantage, flat out refusing to answer any questions on what he deems “operational matters”.

But on Sunday Mr Newman said he is just getting on with the job – and would work to tell the government’s ‘good news stories’.

"Queenslanders elected us to do a job, a tough job," Mr Newman said.

"And we are going to ask Queenslanders to reflect on where we have come from.

"People can't forget that two and half years ago, nurses and doctors weren't being paid.

"And former premier Anna Bligh said health was a basket case, health was dysfunctional

"It has been turned around.. and that is an exciting story.”
