With the preliminary events wrapped up, all eyes will turn to the four day 72-hole tournament.
Open co-ordinator Greg Bellinger is overwhelmed with the numbers registered, nearly equally last year’s incredible mark.
“I thought we might only get about 80 people to register but the number is much closer to 100, which is great,” he said.
“Most of our members have registered for the competition, showing strong commitment to the club.”
The tournament is expected to by tightly fought, if last weekend’s foursomes are anything to go by.
“It’s a very strong field with plenty of players hitting good form last weekend,” Bellinger said.
“We even have players such as Ross and Patty Thompson (Brisbane) and John Kapeechkin (Ayre) competing from out of town.”
Brothers Mike and Manu Ruri will be looking to build on their success in the men’s foursome last Saturday.
“The Ruri brothers come in as some of the favourites, along with stalwart Robbie Murphy and Chris Crouch,” Bellinger said.
“John Dunne will be there-abouts in B Grade and Doug Gage will take some beating in C Grade.”
The ladies tournament tees off Saturday, with over 20 players registered in a hot field.
