But Bruce McIver did issue a "call to arms" to the LNP faithful, the 14,000 Queensland members, to go back to their communities and "spread the good word" of "all the good things that our government, at the three levels, are doing".

Speaking at the LNP annual conference, Mr McIver faced a somewhat bruised and battered membership. Polling for both the federal and state government has dropped and nine months out from the Queensland election, the LNP is facing the real possibility of going from a historic majority to a hung parliament.

But he asked the room to stay the course and have faith in their parliamentary leaders.

"Labor is always better at spin than we are in all levels of government, we just get on and do the job," he said.

"Albert Einstein once said what’s right is not always popular, what’s popular is not always right. I think we’ve seen that in the federal budget.

“Where would Queensland be if Labor had won the 2012 election? I wonder what Labor would have done. Raise taxes? That’s the only answer that they have. Labor has no plans, Labor has no policies and the minor parties would just mean chaos. And we saw that in Canberra yesterday."

Mr McIver repeated the 'where would we be' question when speaking to media after his speech.

"When you make tough decisions that have to be made, sometimes they are misunderstood or they are not correctly understood, but in the long term, the benefits and understanding of those policies will come home and we are seeing that already with the jobs created in Queensland in the last 12 months the turn around in the finances," he said.

"Where would we have been if Labor had won in 2012?

"... You win elections on Election Day.  We are more concerned about the benefits that Queensland families will gain decisions that we have had to make and that is what we are about - governing for all of Queensland in the time leading up to the election.  On Election Day we will worry about all those other things."

But, echoing Labor, Mr McIver said he was not concerned about the Palmer United Party.

"Minor parties are not really a concern of mine," he said.

"I think you'll find Queenslanders will have a real choice at the next election, to either have chaos or to have a strong LNP government, led by Campbell Newman, with a strong plan for their future."

He told the room that the government's successes, including health, had come with less public servants.

He said the state government had a good story to tell - a recent mantra of those who stand under the LNP flag - but warned next year's election would be tough.

"They [Labor] are out there pre-selecting candidates who were part of the problem in 2012. They got Queensland into the mess and now they are saying to voters, let me have another go at it and see how big of a mess I can make next time," he said.

"... We can expect an ugly scare campaign from Labor and the left and the unions, who have no plans to improve Queensland and nothing to offer but negativity and lies."

Prime Minister Tony Abbott will address the conference on Sunday, with Mr Newman scheduled to speak on Sunday.
