The show is based on the Disney movie High School Musical , and will be performed in Mount Isa on Friday and Saturday night.
The musical’s producer Lauren Brown said the students were excited about putting their talents on show.
“Auditions were held in the first week of February and roles were cast pretty much straight away, so we have been working on it since then,’’ she said.
Students have been rehearsing on Thursday afternoons, but have recently included a Sunday session to perfect the show.
“It is a show about being true to yourself and not allowing other people to dictate where you fit in - there’s a bit of romance, a lot of scheming and a whole heap of fun,” Ms Brown said.
Three teachers are also part of the cast for the show that promises to be full of colour.
“It has been exciting to see the teachers take on another personality, and it’s always great to see staff getting involved in fun projects like this,” Ms Brown said.
“All the set pieces and costumes are very bright and the entire stage explodes with high energy dancing.”
Props were made by year 11 art classes as part of their assessment, and sets were built by the manual arts staff.
“We only have a small cast this year, about 35 kids in total including band and backstage crew,” Ms Brown said.
“There are two acts, each going for about an hour.“
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students/pensioners and $5 children and are available at Outback at Isa. Performances are Friday night and Saturday night with the show starting at 7pm at the Mount Isa Civic Centre.
