Campbell Newman promised to return the need for bi-partisan support to apply to the head of the corruption watchdog on Monday.

Ken Levy, the acting head of the commission set to remain in the role until October, does not enjoy the support of Labor.

Dr Levy is the subject of a select ethics committee probe into whether he deliberately misled a parliamentary committee.

Mr Newman said Labor would have its chance to peruse candidates following the formal recruitment process.

“The Opposition will have their say in that and they will have to ultimately, essentially they'll have a right of veto," Mr Newman told 612 ABC Brisbane on Wednesday morning.

"But I hope they can be sensible about it. I call for them to do the right thing in approaching this and I would assume that they would."

But Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk said it was not enough.

“Actions speak louder than words,” she said.

“If the Premier was truly serious about listening to Queenslanders he would immediately stand aside the acting chair of the corruption watchdog in Queensland.

“...If the Premier is true to his word, if the Premier was really listening now, after Stafford, he needs to act immediately and the chair should stand aside.

“It is very simple. All the Premier needs to do is pick up the phone and talk to me.  I am happy to discuss it.”
