MOUNT Isa claimed second place at last weekend’s North Queensland Golf A-grade Division 5 Pennant at Lavarack Golf Club in Townsville.

Robbie Murphy led a strong team of Jamie McGregor, Jamie Stewart, Grant Poole, Greg Bellinger, Jacob Smith, John Warren and Sam Bellinger in the competition.
Their weekend started well, as they defeated Charters Towers five matches to three in a head-to-head match play.
Later on Saturday, the Mount Isa Golf Club side would lose to eventual champions Bowen, five matches to three.
The side bounced back in their final came on Sunday against local side Lavarack, defeating the hosts 41-2 matches to 31-2 matches.
This left the Mount Isa side in second, with Bowen claiming first, Charters Towers third and Lavarack (fourth) in the relegation position.
In golfing closer to home, the Mount Isa Golf Club held its CNW Monthly Medal for A, B and C grades.
Darron James returned to the winner’s circle after an unsuccessful Open campaign, recording a three-under par nett score of 69.
James’s score of 69 nett (80 gross) was enough to hold off runner-up Andrew Richardson 70 nett (79 gross).
Matt Siaosi claimed the July B-grade medal with a score of 64 nett (83 gross) ahead of pair Orrie Sawczak (82 gross-67 nett) and Bill Ellis (81 gross-67 nett), who were only separated by a count back.
In the C grade, Darrel Kropp’s fine round of 65 nett (85 gross) saw him claim the title, edging out rival Adrian Smart’s 67 nett (88 gross).

This weekend will see the Mount Isa Golf Club Stableford A, B and C-grades event on the Saturday, and the Holden Scramble Mount Isa qualifier teeing off at 10am Sunday.
