The whale became trapped by its tail in nets off Kirra Beach on Thursday morning.
Members of the public phoned Sea World to raise the alarm after spotting the animal struggling about 500 metres offshore.
A rescue crew from Sea World was dispatched about 8am and managed to free the whale about 9.20am.
Two weeks ago, a young humpback whale became stranded on Palm Beach on the Gold Coast for nearly two days.
The distressing scene attracted large crowds to the beach, as Sea World crews lead the marathon rescue effort.
It took Sea World crews five attempts to rescue the juvenile whale, which was finally returned to the ocean on July 10.
