A police officer was allegedly grabbed around the neck, after responding to calls of a large disturbance in Orchid Avenue about 1.30am.

Four men and two women have been charged and are scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court at later dates.

A 19-year-old South Australian woman has been charged with three counts of assault police.

A 20-year-old man from New South Wales has been charged with obstruct police.

A 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, both from New South Wales, have each been charged with obstruct police and public nuisance.

A 24-year-old New South Wales man has been issued with a notice to appear for assault police and public nuisance.

All are scheduled to front Southport Magistrates Court on August 13.

A 20-year-old from New South Wales, has been issued with a notice to appear for assault police and is expected to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on September 26.

Also on the Gold Coast, police are investigating a serious crash between a motorcycle and a bus over a tram line that occurred earlier in the evening.

The crash occurred just before 6pm at the intersection of Surfers Paradise Blvd and Pandanus Ave and caused significant delays to road traffic and tram traffic.

The motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries and police are calling for witnesses to come forward.
