Brisbane bore the brunt of a short, sharp storm that lashed Queensland’s southeast late on Saturday afternoon, dumping nearly eight millimetres of rain on the city in half-an-hour.

Skies darkened across the city just after 4pm and the heavens opened half-an-hour later.
At its peak, Weather zone meteorologist Drew Casper-Richardson said Brisbane copped 3.6mm in just 10 minutes, while Archerfield Airport recorded the heaviset downpour, with 5.8mm falling there in just 10 minutes.
Mr Casper-Richardson said a broad trough stretching from New South Wales up to northern Queensland had prompted the minor deluge.
He said while there could be a few isolated rain cells continuing into Saturday evening, no more storms were expected.
“There might be a few showers lingering tonight but its clearing up tomorrow,” he said.
“The rainfall will bring a bit more surface moisture, so there could possibly be some fog tomorrow morning but in terms of rainfall, Brisbane is on for a pretty good finish to July.
“There’s no real rainfall expected for the rest of the month.”
Saturday afternoon’s storm came just as play got underway in the AFL Queensland derby at the Gabba.
Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns players were pelted for much of the first quarter as the storm unleashed across the city.
The next week, Mr Casper-Richardson said is expected to bring high temperatures of 24 or 25 degrees for most of the week.
However, he said clear skies would again see minimum temperatures drop into single digits early in the week, before rising to a predicted 12 degrees from Thursday onwards, thanks to cloud cover.
