But usual winter conditions – complete with dry air and cloudless skies – are expected to resume by the weekend.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Andrew Bufalino said the unseasonable weather was down to some north-westerlies and warmer air passing over the region.

“So from tomorrow onwards, we should see temperatures three to five degrees above average,” he said.

“Until the weekend comes around – and then it is back to normal.”

Next weekend may also bring a few showers as well, but then Mr Bufalino didn’t expect any “decent” reprieve from the dry weather until mid-October, when the rain traditionally returned.

“[Until then] it is going to be fine and sunny and quite dry,” he said.
