With 15 riders and six supporters, the Border Babes will once again be out in force taking part in the 2014 Border Ride – a charity event raising money for Mount Isa locals.
Four riders plan to tackle the entire 203-kilometre trip, while the others will tag-team it, doing about 50km each.
Between them, the Border Babes will complete almost 1700km and plan to all cross the finish line together.
Border Babes co-ordinator Pam McHugh said the team was a mix of experienced and novice cyclists.
‘‘Some babes only left their backyard two months ago, while others have been riding for many years,” she said.
“We are very proud of all our Babes for being involved.’’
With two ‘‘babelicious’’ boy babes donning the now famous pink outfits, the Border Babes promise to be the team to beat this year when it comes to team spirit and having fun.
The Border Babes’ special guest this year is Crystal, who was a Border Babe (in spirit) in 2012.
This will be Crystal’s first outback experience and what better way to see the beautiful outback than by taking part in a charity ride.
One special Babe missing in action this year is Tracey Tweedie, a strong Babe supporter. However the babes will be riding with Tracey in their hearts as she tackles an even bigger challenge in Townsville the same day as the ride.
So if you are travelling the Barkly Highway on Saturday, or see the Babes on a training ride around Mount Isa’s roads over the next week or so, be sure to give them a wave of encouragement.
