REBELS have geared up for the upcoming finals series with a 6-2 win against Pirates in the A-Grade Men’s Mount Isa Softball Association competition.
Pitcher Yael Ladisla led the way for Rebels and was ably supported by catcher Mark Bellamy, Chris Tyson and Matt Hovi.
First baseman Darryl Parker coolly handled some wild throws from the youngsters.
Pirates Kieran Punch, Josh Retchford, Andrew Walden and Andrew Gaston all held true to the Pirates’ spirit, performing strongly.
David Hegarty kept the infield focused all game while duo Tristan Saltmere and Alex Kostowski continued their combination from the winning All Blacks carnival team.
In the other game, Ryan Smith pitched his Wanderers side to victory against Red Devils 16-4.
Handy team batting from Clynton Munns, Jordan Pickering, Matt Croghan and brothers Steven and Chris Dredge ensured victory.
Steven Dredge’s face plant into the home plate ensured his team kept the runs ticking over.
For an undermanned Red Devils, Nick and Darcy Celona, Luke Pollard. Stewie Beetham and Jim Wirth all tried hard.
A-GRADE LADIES
IN THE open ladies division of the Mount Isa Softball Association competition, Rebels White’s winning streak fell when Pirates scored a 9-2 win.
Pirates big guns Patricia Richards, Kaye Smith and Mellissa Nathan all had strong games with Camilla Walden and Virginia Medwin also contributing.
The usually well-drilled Rebels White team struggled on the day but Linda King, Cianne Denyer and Fiona Bryant all toiled away.
Red Devils beat Wanderers A 12-8 with a five-run bottom of the dig batting explosion getting them home.
Devils Pitcher Jodie Lee King was on the spot all match with big hits from Brenda Henricks, Katie Hovi , Melissa Horne and Hazle Martin.
Wanderers were best served by Amanda Bishop, Nikki Byrne, Dennielle Byrne and Jay Hegarty.
Angela Baker and Gracie Ryder had their teammates in stitches with an almost perfect double team roll and missed the ball in the outfield occasion.
In the late game, Cheryl Gallagher’s pitching was the difference for Rebels Red’s 16- 1 win against Wanderers.
Kristie Munns, Tammi Webber, Helen Burns and Colleen Mohamed all played well.
Tiffanny Waddell-Wood proved the perfect foil at catcher for Gallagher’s pitching.
Wanderers Jen Hamlett, Zhoe Stephenson, Kristina Staines and Ollie Quirk all tried hard.
The play of the game was an interesting out assist from Linda Walmsley who in attempting to catch a fly ball managed to deflect it far enough into a falling Caylea O’Neill’s glove.
Wanderers Gold took down Rebels Blue in a 16-8 romp with the victors led by Leanne Rumbalu, Colleen Byrne and youngster Gabby Wakefield.
Marette Schulz was a standout at first base while for Rebels, Sonya Reid , Allison Hagan, Loata Webber and Claire Emmerson played well.
A-RESERVE MEN’S
Pirates scored a 14-7 win over Rebels with a six-run third inning the difference in the game.
Steven Strangways , James Byrne, Arnold Bowman, Andrew Gaston and Bart Walden had telling hits for the winners.
Kieran Punch scored a home run with runners on base that also caused some damage.
For Rebels, Sam Irachi, Joe Stevens and Jeff Biffen all worked hard.
Two returns for Rebels in stalwarts Will Webber and Kim Timonen were welcome, if not a touch rusty.
