Labor MP Jo-Ann Miller hit out against the government’s Queensland Plan announcement on Wednesday, calling it an excuse to use “tax payers' money to promote its own propaganda before the next state election”.

Ms Miller said the 30-year blue print, which lays out goals and targets the government has said it will aim to aspire to, was “motherhood statements”.

“There were a number of people who participated in the Queensland Plan and I think that many of them would be disappointed because it is a plan of motherhood statements,” she said.

“This Queensland Plan is for 2044 but there are many people right across Queensland who are saying: Where is the plan for tomorrow? Where is the plan for six months, the next 12 months and the next couple of years?”

Labor plans on alerting the public to its own plan. And it plans to tell voters about it soon.

“We will have our own plan which we will be talking to Queenslanders about in the coming months and we will release that prior to the next state election,” Ms Miller said.

Labor MPs were involved in the process, but have previously criticised it. The former Labor government set out its own plan in Towards Q2, which the LNP previously criticised.

Premier Campbell Newman said he planned on promoting the plan to all Queenslanders, as it was Queensland’s plan and all government departments would need to plan to incorporate the plan in their own future plans.

“This isn’t a government plan it’s a plan for all of Queensland. Business needs to take into consideration, local governments need to take it into consideration, non-government organisations in their planning work can now have confidence,” he said on Thursday.

“So we’ve all got to work together to do that. But government will have legislation that requires it to observe the goals and targets of the plan.”
