Celebrating their 21st year in Mount Isa, Taoist tai chi instructor Anna Stewart wants more people from the region to enjoy her sport.
“Our form of exercise is based on compassion and acts as a dual cultivation for your body,” she said.
“It can make your body strong while calming the mind.”
Originally developed by Master Moy Lin-Shin in China, the exercise is now offered in more than 30 countries, including Canada, which is home to the International Society of Taoist Tai Chi.
“It continues to grow all the time, with over 173 people attending an intensive workshop in Brisbane in March,” Stewart said.
“The luxury of Taoist tai chi is that you don’t need any equipment, you just need your body.”
Stewart is hoping the sport can continue to grow in Mount Isa, with 30 people registered in the area already.
“We would love more people to come and experience the 108 moves that we offer here in Taoist Tai Chi,” she said.
For those continuing from before, classes run four times a week at the Spinifex Residential Campus (top of Transmission Street) at 10am on Mondays and Wednesdays and 7.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
For beginners, classes are being run at 9am on Mondays and Wednesdays and 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
