“No, I retired him now, no more. It would be Crocodile Dundee in a retirement village,” Hogan joked.
Hogan created the iconic Mick Dundee character because he knew it was how Americans perceived North Queenslanders and Northern Territorians to be in the 1980s.
“He never really was a stereotype, he was a romantic Australian Aussie that we like to pretend we are,” Hogan said.
Locals well know that the movie’s Walkabout Creek hotel was set in McKinlay, chosen because it “looked right.”
Hogan met his wife of 23 years, Linda Kozlowski, on the set. Recent publicity regarding Hogan has focused on their divorce.
Contrary to the “grubby magazines” and tabloid articles, Kozlowski and Hogan are still “best of friends”.
Hogan knows firsthand that the “unnamed source close to the couple” will quote lies.
“It just means they’ve just made it up pretty much,” Hogan said.
When Hogan talks about his “weird and wonderful life” he will discuss everything from his origins and his marriage with Kozlowski, and even briefly touch on the Australian Taxation Office’s recent investigation into taxes he apparently owed.
“I’ve got nothing to hide.
“The Australian Taxation Office wasted six, seven years of my life, they wasted a lot of taxpayers’ dollars.”
Hogan said while touring he heard contradictory versions of the ATO investigation from his audience.
“They thought I went to jail,” he said.
In fact, the charges were dropped.
He will also mention how he became famous.
The former rigger entered a high profile talent show in Sydney in the early 1970s as a tap dancing knife thrower to “take the mickey”.
The joke backfired when he won the show and catapulted into the world of stardom.
Undoubtedly the 1985 Australian of the Year is saving the more interesting stories on the night.
The Hoges: One Night Only! Mount Isa event begins 7.30pm on Tuesday night.
