The open women’s side secured second place, after an impressive six wins over the two days.
Brisbane’s Underwood Park claimed the title in the round-robin tournament in Townsville.
“We are happy that we went better than last year but are still a little disappointed that we didn’t win the whole thing,” team member Wai Emery said.
“But we are aiming to go again next year, so hopefully we can go one better again then.”
Two losses on the Saturday to Bundaberg and Underwood Park, both by two goals, hurt the team’s aspirations of claiming the silverware.
“We ended up having only nine players, if you include me, as two girls had to pull out at the last minute,” Emery said.
“With the late withdrawals, it took until Saturday afternoon to figure out our best combination.”
Emery credits her team’s incredible defence, which suffocated the opposition’s offence.
“We originally started Mareta (Alexander) and Amy Clark in defence, but made a change late Saturday,” Emery said.
“We moved Chanoa (Patuwai) from centre to goal defence to partner Mareta and moved Amy to wing defence, which strengthened our defence even more.”
Mount Isa sent two other sides to the Townsville tournament, a division 2 open ladies team and an under-18s side; both failed to claim silverware.
