The additions, worth about $13,500, come thanks to the PCYC’s partnership with Glencore Mount Isa Mines.
The new equipment includes chin-up bars, pull-up bars and weights, installed in the boxing room.
PCYC branch manager Sergeant Gina Scott said the upgrades included new gym equipment, painting throughout, solar panels, new carpet and bathroom vanities and a new sign out the front.
“The big expenses that we would be taking out large loans and placing the club in large amounts of debit to achieve – painting, carpeting, upgrading equipment and a large sign to let people know what we are up to – are being covered,” she said.
Sergeant Scott said the partnership with Glencore Mount Isa Mines enabled the club to remain competitive and focus on serving the community through youth development programs.
“These partnerships and support are a generous and thoughtful investment into our community, that enable Mount Isa PCYC to work smarter and harder in areas that we know will make a difference, to our youth and community programs,” she said.
The new upgrades are already proving popular with gym-goers with better utilisation of the boxing room’s space.
Sergeant Scott said the partnership would enable the PCYC to focus on youth support, crime prevention activities and community engagement activities for all ages.
“This level of support to the club means that we can continue to support communities in the Mt Isa district including Camooweal, Dajarra, Urandangi, Lake Nash and Cloncurry through our youth programs and school visits,” she said.
“Mount Isa residents can continue to have access to a great gym, childcare, youth support and programs.”
