In its fourth year, the annual event attracts thousands of people from all across the country.
“As it is the furthest west drag racing we have in Queensland, it has significant attraction to Mount Isa residents,” Mount Isa Drag Racing and Hotrod Association president Nick Bell said.
“I’d expect more than 100 residents from Mount Isa to attend the event, which seems to grow each year in popularity.”
There will numerous Mount Isa entrants competing in the drag racing.
“We will have a handful of competitors in the drag racing event, including Graham Hilton and Luke Matthews,” Bell said yesterday.
“These are two of the premier drag racers from Mount Isa and are sure to put in a great show with their cars on Saturday.
“Along with these two, there should be another eight or so vehicles competing.”
Bell has been part of the committee that has organised this event for the past four years and welcomes the growth of the event.
“Each year the event slowly grows in size and popularity, which is shown by the Freestyle Motocross teaming up with the event this year,” he said.
“With the drags happening in the day and the Motocross taking place in the evening, it should be an enjoyable day for all.” Aussie Adrenaline, one of Australia’s premiere action sports film producers, will combine with the drag racing at Boulia for the first time.
The free live show will include Nitro Circus rider Michael ‘Chucky’ Norris, Australian FMX Champion Joel Brown and Crusty Demons Luke McNeill, who will perform death-defying stunts.
Gates open for the outback drag racing at 9am, before the free Motocross show kicks off at 6pm at the Boulia Racecourse.
