Recently I saw the movie Draft Day. It's an American Football movie based on the NFL Draft. Starring Kevin Costner the movie focused on how a club would recruit players for the upcoming season. On the surface the movie sounds pretty uninspiring but I can tell you the movie was brilliant.

Draft Day is a well put together sports movie. Others in recent times have also been brilliant including 42. Moneyball and others.

Watching these movies got me thinking - which Australian sporting moments, stories, controversies etc. would you like to see turned into a movie?

I know we have had Bodyline, Phar Lap, The Cup and many fictional rugby league or Aussie rules based movies.

Surely we have more sports stories that can be turned into something we can see on the big screen.

Personally I'd like to see a movie surrounding the Super League War. Starting on April 1 1995 when the whole rugby league world was turned upside down and concluding when both sides came together in 1998. Lifelong friends turned into the fiercest enemies. Money was being thrown around like it was going out of fashion. I think it could be a real hit.

What about some other moments in Australian Sport that could be turned into a movie?

Perhaps Cathy Freeman and the Sydney Olympic Games. Maybe the 1989 Ashes Tour that was said to be our worst touring squad but went on to win the Ashes.

Another idea could be a movie about the beginnings of State of Origin? Now that would be a good movie.
