The Brisbane Fringe Festival is a celebration of art, culture and all things in between – including those who like to vamp it up a bit.
Whether you are a closet Twilight fan, a True Blood fanatic or just a lover of a good night out, the 2014 Bloodlust Ball is for you.
Hosted as part of this year’s Brisbane Fringe Festival, the Bloodlust Ball is an event like no other.
Be prepared to frock up (and blood up) at this year’s ball which is Silver Scream (Screen) themed.
The evening will be a plethora of live music, dancing, food and drink and will be topped off with the naming of the night’s Mr and Mrs Transylvania.
It will be held on August 23, 6.30pm at the Tivoli in Fortitude Valley.
General admission tickets are available online for $50 until midnight on Sunday.
Tickets can also be purchased on the night at the door for $60.
The Bloodlust Ball is the number-one event of the Carpathian Magistratus Vampyre Society.
The society began in Brisbane in 1993 and brought together those interested in the literature, art, fashion and mythology of vampires.
The very first Bloodlust Ball was held in 1994 and, apart from a break in the early 2000s, it has been an annual event ever since.
Society president Joanne Stephen said the ball was a not-for-profit event and proceeds raised were donated to support local musicians, photographers and artists.
This year the society also plans to donate money to none other than the Red Cross Blood Service.
The Brisbane Fringe Festival is in its third year and proving to be bigger than ever.
This year’s event kicked off to a stellar crowd with a launch party hosted by the Zoo.
The opening event featured local alternative-rock band Arundel, opera quartet Babushka and Brazilian flash-mob Som de Calcada.
The festival will feature 130 exciting and diverse events staged over 17 days to August 31.
This is up from 106 events last year and around 90 in 2012 when it first began.
Festival creative producer James Lees said he and his team were very excited about Fringe this year.
‘‘This year’s festival is bigger and better than ever before,’’ Mr Lees said.
He said Fringe newbies who were not sure which events to choose should head to the festival's "spiritual home" the Bearded Lady at 138 Boundary street, West End.
Shows, cabarets and comedies will be on offer at the venue from Tuesday – Sunday for the duration of the festival.

Cabaret and Circus
Vamp and Burn by Lola the Vamp – Black Bear Lodge – Aug 17, 8pm – $18.50
Combing live music and ‘‘off the cuff’’ burlesque, Vamp and Burn is a turn-of-the-century cabaret set in New Orleans. Expect sensual delight and stories of love, loss, melancholy and no regrets.
All Class (my heart, my ass) by Marianna Joslin – The Bearded Lady – Aug 18 & 26, 8.15pm - $8/$10
This is a show about being a woman and the difficulties of being ‘‘truly classy’’. Told through dance, tragicomedy, circus and love, this smart, somewhat cynical and explosive tale of womanhood is not to be missed.
Comedy
Finding Love by the Mime Guy – Lock’n’Load – Aug 21, 7.30pm - $15
In Finding Love, the Mime Guy will take you on a roller-coaster ride of love and laughter as he tries to woo the girl of his dreams. Or is she? A show not to be missed!
Regrets and Cigarettes by Alana Shootingstar and Rhi Down – Pallet Bar and Brew – Aug 20 & 28, 8pm - $10
Regrets and Cigarettes is a comedy spectacular performed by a pair of Brisbane comedians. Be prepared to relax and get personal over a few drinks and learn all about some of the things the pair have seen and done that ‘‘real’’ ladies would most probably rather forget.

Facemeat and Miles Thomas – New Globe Theatre: Cinema Room – Aug 28, 8pm - $10
Come along and enjoy performances by two avant garde/jazz acts Face Meat and Miles Thomas as well as a selection of short films from Brisbane filmmakers.
Nightlight – Depo – Aug 28, 7.30pm – free
This is your chance to delight in three Jerry Lewis films all at once and all for free. The films on show will be The Nutty Professor, The Patsy and The Bell Boy and You. Expect the classic slapstick hilarity that made Lewis’s films famous.
Multi-arts and Workshops
Riverchild Workshop with Maru-Butoh – Zen Central Yoga Studio 0 Aug 17, 11am - $30
Riverchild is a workshop of metamorphosis that incorporates Oki-do Yoga and the teachings of various Butoh dancers. Come along and explore your body through unique improvisation and free expression.
Simply Splendid Soiree by Jazz Club – Aug 24, 2pm – Musgrave Park – $10 (kids are free)
Your presence is requested at the debut of festival’s Simply Splendid Soirée to be held at Musgrave Park. Kick off your shoes and enjoy the jazz bands, DJs and surprise performances from 2pm until dusk.

Get a Fringe by Mzaza – A secret place... – Aug 20, 7pm - $15
A show like no other that blends original and traditional sounds from the Mediterranean, the Balkans and the Middle East. Front-woman Pauline Maudy sings in French, Spanish, Ladino and Turkish and this makes the performance all the more captivating and dynamic.
The Future at the End by various, emerging DJs – The End – Aug 20 & 27, 7pm
A collation of performances by emerging DJs such as Sam Macguire (SoundAlmightyMusic), James Gatling, Cassandra Kemp, Chris Walsh, Damian Hanratty (DJ Snapper), Paige Lee (DJ Nicholas Paige) and Matt Treffene.

Lilith by Anzjuli Venter- Lucky Duck Cafe and Bar – Aug 15 & 16, 7.30pm – $15

I can’t say the F word is a humorous yet deeply personal insight into how words can have a deep and profound impact on an individual’s identity. The show is presented by Gavin Roach, the brains behind the critically acclaimed Confessions of a Grindr Addict and Any Womb Will Do.

Galaxy Express by Felix Harris – Poly Gone Cowboy –Aug 22, 5 – 8pm – free
Galaxy Express is a colourful and clever collection of new works from New Zealand-based artist Felix Harris. Harris explains his work as ‘‘ part social critique/ commentary’’ that identifies his interests in pop culture mixed with bits of spiritual and religious iconography.
Rouges Gallery by Van Dijk and Plowman – Lightspace – Aug 27, 6pm – free
This is a one-night-only exhibition opening of Nic Plowman and Jan Van Dijk’s grand collaborative painting ‘Rogues Gallery’ and studies. Expect a rare and unique collection of images that provides a snapshot collage of those who live outside the law.
