This is how the game unfolded:

6th minute: Anton Saltmere throws cut-out pass to winger Matt Toby, who cuts back in to find fullback Darryl Avery. Avery cuts through the defence line and steps the opposing fullback to score. Anton Saltmere adds the extras, 12-0.
9th minute: Wanderers prop Al Weller drops the ball on the second tackle presenting string field position for Stingers. Stingers halfback Travis Fraser throws cut-out pass to winger Myron Toby to cross under uprights. Fraser converts, 12-6.
13th minute: Wanderers’ Terry Cook shrugs off a couple of would-be defenders but is brought down just a metre short of the try line. Corey Carlson jumps into dummy half and dives over to score. Saltmere fails to convert, 16-6.
15th minute: Wanderers halfback Ryan Cassidy is helped from the field with ankle injury (and would not return). Anton Saltmere moves from lock into halves.
20th minute: With Taukei down in back play, Stingers run the ball on the last tackle. Winger Joshua Grieves scoots down the sideline before cutting it back into Fraser, who attempts to chip Avery. Avery knocks on attempting to catch the ball, which falls into Fraser’s lap to cross in the corner. Fraser unsuccessful with conversion, 16-10.
