The G20 security area covers the CBD and sections of South Brisbane, Kangaroo Point, Petrie Terrace, Spring Hill, Bowen Hills and Fortitude Valley.

About 4000 delegates, 3000 media and 5000 police are expected to descend on Brisbane for the event on November 15 and 16.

Police said residents in the security area, described as an “invisible barrier” to the G20 venues, would be able to go about their normal business during the summit but transport would be affected.

“Police will be periodically closing lanes and roads within the declared area to allow motorcades to travel between the Brisbane Airport and the accommodation and meeting venues,” the guide says.

Public transport timetables around the city are expected to be affected. Services around the CBD and South Bank could be re-routed and in some cases terminated early.

Trains will not stop at the South Brisbane station from November 10 to 13, and services will avoid the station altogether on Novermber 15 and 16.

The busway under the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre will be closed from November 14 to 16.

The “restricted areas” in Brisbane include the convention centre, RNA Showgrounds and hotels where world leaders will stay.

Friday November 14 has been declared a public holiday in Brisbane.

Police said the final details of the event's impact on traffic and transport would be "confirmed and communicated approximately six weeks prior to the G20 Leaders’ Summit".
