Officers were called to Palm Drive in Deeragun, a town on the Bruce Highway about 17 km west of central Townsville, about 8.45pm on Wednesday after reports of people “using a substance”, a police spokesman said.

A struggle ensued and a male officer fell into a storm drain.

Police allege the 15-year-old girl then jumped on the officer's back and attempted to strangle him. She then allegedly tried to scratch his face and grab his firearm.

The officer used a Taser to subdue the girl.

The officer suffered facial injuries and was treated at Townsville Base Hospital, while the girl was also taken to hospital for observation but had no visible injuries.

The girl, from Mount Louisa, was charged with assaulting police and is due to face court under provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Police are expected to provide more details about the incident at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
