Jacob Michael Smith, 38, was seen leaving the Anthea Mari's Milsom Street home in Norman Park about 3.30am on Tuesday.

Ms Mari's body was discovered by a housemate while two of her daughters were sleeping in a nearby room.

Police investigating the suspicious death are yet to find Mr Smith after appealing for him to come forward on Tuesday.

Detective Inspector Rod Kemp said Mr Smith was from the Gold Coast and was known to frequent the Coolangatta and Mudgeeraba areas, along with the Wynnum region in Brisbane's bayside.

"There's no talk of him going interstate. It's more around the Gold Coast area," Inspector Kemp said on Wednesday morning.

"We'll be talking with family and associates down there."

On Tuesday, police warned the public not to approach Mr Smith, saying he could be dangerous.

However Inspector Kemp said Mr Smith's involvement in Tuesday morning's death was unclear because he had not spoken to investigators.

Fairfax Media has not disclosed information about Mr Smith's background for legal reasons.

He is described as 180cm tall, of average build, and with dark brown hair.

Mr Smith was not a resident of the Milsom Street home and was described as a friend of Ms Mari's.

The cause of the 34-year-old woman's death has not been determined and police were expected to begin the post-mortem on Wednesday morning.

Inspector Kemp said reports the mother-of-four had been strangled to death were speculative.

Ms Mari once fronted a campaign for not-for-profit organisation Micah Project, where she spoke of enduring 15 years of domestic violence and homelessness.

However she said her life had improved and encouraged women whose lives were in crisis to speak up.

She also posted messages on social media about surviving domestic violence and her love for her children in the weeks leading up to her death.

"Children shouldn't have to sacrifice so that you can have the life you want. You make sacrifices so your children can have the life that they deserve," a post on her Facebook page said.
