Yesterday morning, Deputy Mayor Bob McDonald reminded his fellow councillors of that promise with a chuckle as he cut the ribbon on Ramsay Street’s new 24-space car park.
“Plenty of councils would give their right hand to be in such a position of activity and commerce to say they need off-street parking,” Cr McDonald said.
The official opening of the Ramsay Street car park concludes stage 3 of the council’s ongoing beautification project.
Shade structures and green spaces were built into the shire’s main street and business district at the end of last year.
Cloncurry Shire Council chief executive officer David Neeves said the car park would support economic development in the main street.
“Not only does the 24-space car park offset the on-street parking spaces lost during the Ramsay Street beautification works, but provides safer off-street parking for families,” he said.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, councillors thanked representatives from Ascott Civil, the lead contractor of the project, and council workers for their contributions to the $243,500 project.
